Andra, the National Radioactive Waste Management Agency

A specific public agency, Andra, has the responsibility for the long-term management of radioactive waste produced in France (but excluding foreign waste or waste originating from foreign spent fuel processing).

This agency operates waste repositories, defines the acceptance criteria for waste packages in these repositories and controls the quality of their production. The agency is also in charge of designing, siting, and constructing new disposal facilities. It keeps up to date the National inventory of radioactive waste and recoverable materials in France (this inventory includes the so-called “committed” or forecast waste) on a three-year basis.
